Modou Ceesay: Survivor of the Back Way

Hello,

Today, we have a very touching story to share with you by a survivor of the back way, Modou Ceesay.

We have realised that too many individuals feel forced to remain in a foreign country-experiencing immense hardship, discrimination and pain-, all because of the huge sums of money that their parents have invested in sending them to Europe. They feel obliged to succeed financially and can fear coming home without profit, as failure in that respect, will also be viewed as a personal failure.

But as we know through Modou’s courageous account; survival is not a failure. The fact that he returned home alive is a victory in itself. There is so much value in the life of an individual, in his or her well-being and in his or her dignity, that transcends any amount of money that could ever be spent. Let us support and tell our family and friends not to feel obliged to stay in danger, out of guilt or fear.
